Honky Tonk Angel, released the following year, boasts the subtitle "Country Songs With a City Flavor. While this delicate formula worked for Tony Bennett and Ray Charles, Kallen doesn't have the passion to translate Hank Williams material. Originally released on Columbia, both albums have been reissued for the first time together by Collectables.

Honky Tonk Angels is a collaborative studio album by Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette. It was released on November 2, 1993, by Columbia Records. The album was certified Gold by the RIAA on January 5, 1994, for sales of 500,000 copies. The album had been a long-rumored project between the country singers for over a decade. It was mostly Parton's idea to bring together the women who made their musical breakthroughs in the '60s.

Talk about Kitty Kallen - Honky Tonk Angel, Country Songs With A City Flavor

The worst country album made by a whitebread pop '50s vocalist on a major label. Her other period albums are professionally boring and within her market and taste range, but this project is beyond horrible, it's off the cliff horrible. A friend of mine had a promo 45 with two of these tracks, "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels"/"You Are My Sunshine," and I was immediately smitten (delicious audio nausea) by her beyond clueless grandmothery enthusiasm and the guy overpowering her vocals with the electric organ. Every track on this Lp sounds like the band backing her is cooking along, the roller rink organ is cranked WAY UP, she rides every song like she thinks she owns it, and the entire experience is the worst Welk-esque easy listening vocalist trainwreck you could ever hear of great country music completely, utterly butchered by people who don't know/never heard/despise/laugh at the real thing. This is white flight suburban pop at war with the art of the country & western genre'.
