The Resonators project arose from a wish to compose specifically for highly resonant architectural spaces with amplified acoustic intruments. These recordings were made in 2015 in the ambit of the monastery in Bechyně, and a hall in Valdstejn Loggia in Jičín, both in Czech Republic. Packaged in a gatefold card cover.
Cremaschi, Kepl, Vrba – Resonators. All sounds occur within a space, and changing the properties of that space can be a useful way of creating new and interesting sounds. On their tour of resonant spaces in the Czech Republic in 2015, the trio of George Cremaschi, Irene Kepl, and Petr Vrba performed and recorded in a small church, two monasteries, and a hall in the former summer palace of a royal family, always seeking out architectures that provided the right balance of reverberation and airiness. Resonators presents some of the results of their efforts. Two shorter, spikier pieces from Kepl complete the album, their piercing squeaks, deep thrums, pops, buzzes, and thumps using the resonance of the space in which they sound to emphasise attack and suddenness.
Four pieces from a residency in the Czech Republic by the trio of George Cremaschi (double bass and electronics), Irene Kepl (violin and electronics) and Petr Vrba (trumpet, clarinet and electronics). We're concerned with using the acoustics of the resonant spaces we seek out as a sort of additional member of the group, composing with this interaction particularly in mind.

Adventures in Sound: Irene Kepl is a freelance violin player from Vienna and currently planning her first solo record. During a tour this year I decided spontaneously to record some freely improvised music. The result is music, which conects all the facets of my work as a musician - interpretation, composition, improvisation - and ended up being very personal. She runs many of her own projects, including Violet Spin (String Quartet), Ensemble Verso, Kepl & Holub, NYX kepl hübsch, the resonators, and U and I which all have earned international attention. International collaborations indclude work with Mark Holub(USA, Joëlle Léandre/FR, Ursina Tossi/D, Malcolm Goldstein, Joe McPhee, Mats Gustafsson, Maja Osojnik, George Cremaschi and Moe Staiano/USA; Korhan Ehel/TR, Petr Vrba/CZ, Carl Ludwig Hübsch/D.
