Wish You Were Here is the ninth studio album from English rock band Pink Floyd. The follow-up to their legendary album The Dark Side Of The Moon, its genesis was marked by the band’s disorientation following their rise to planetary exposure. Finding it difficult to figure out what to do with their creative future and physically worn out by extensive touring, the band members entered a state where they would reflect on the past, and most notably Pink Floyd founder-gone-mad Syd Barrett.

Pink Floyd followed the commercial breakthrough of Dark Side of the Moon with Wish You Were Here, a loose concept album about and dedicated to their founding member Syd Barrett. The record unfolds gradually, as the jazzy textures of "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" reveal its melodic motif, and in its leisurely pace, the album shows itself to be a warmer record than its predecessor. Musically, it's arguably even more impressive, showcasing the group's interplay and David Gilmour's solos in particular.
The album was produced by The Cars lead singer Ric Ocasek, after Weezer was pressured by Geffen Records to avoid a self-produced album. On the choice, frontman Rivers Cuomo notes, I’d always admired The Cars and Ric Ocasek’s songwriting and production skills. Originally, Blue was to feature Jason Cropper on guitar, as on The Kitchen Tapes. However, after a falling out with the rest of the band and an expected baby on the way, Cropper.
