BBC Sessions is a compilation album featuring studio sessions and a live concert recorded by English rock group Led Zeppelin for the BBC. It was released on 11 November 1997, by Atlantic Records. Disc one consists of material from four different 1969 BBC sessions. Disc two contains most of the 1 April 1971 concert from the Paris Theatre in London.
1970 - Led Zeppelin III. 1971 - Led Zeppelin IV. 1973 - Houses Of The Holy. 1975 - Physical Graffiti. 1979 - In Through The Out Door.
These are Led Zeppelin, Peel announced in his hypnotizing monotone, who played very excellently at the amazing festival in Bath yesterday, about which more later on. And this is curiously called ‘What Is and What Should Never Be’ – or something.
Led Zeppelin's BBC sessions were among the most popular bootleg items of the rock & roll era, appearing on a myriad of illegal records and CDs. They were all the more popular because of the lack of official Led Zeppelin live albums, especially since The Song Remains the Same failed to capture the essence of the band. The 1969 sessions, recorded shortly after the release of the first album, are fiery and dynamic, outstripping the studio record for sheer power.
Still, rock dorks were tangling with this issue long before any of us, and in the context of reckoning with Led Zeppelin-especially as an oft-bootlegged yet still elusive live-band document-the official two-disc release of BBC Sessions in 1997 felt like a moment of clarity
Listening to the Led Zeppelin on The Complete BBC Sessions is a way different experience than listening to the Led Zeppelin from The Song Remains the Same.
Led Zeppelin BBC Sessions. Disc 2 contains 10 tracks performed in concert at the Paris theatre in London on the 1st of April 1971.
