Renée Fleming chronology. Christmas in New York. Christmas in New York is an album by soprano Renée Fleming. A daughter of two music teachers, Fleming was born on February 14, 1959, in Indiana and grew up in Churchville, New York. She has great-grandparents who were born in Prague and emigrated to the US. Fleming attended Churchville-Chili High School under the tutelage of Rob Goodling who taught orchestra, voice, theory/composition, music history, she studied with Patricia Misslin at the Crane School of Music at the State University of New York at Potsdam.

American soprano Renée Fleming and special guests bring the magic of Christmas in New York to homes across America. The essence of the city during this most wonderful time of year is captured in a series of intimate and unique musical performances in a beautiful setting decorated for the holidays.

Renée Fleming returns with a stunning album spanning six decades of German song. Four-time Grammy winning soprano Renée Fleming presents her first full-length Lieder album for almost two decades, released on Decca Classics on 14 June. The release date coincides with her London musical theatre debut, performing the role of Margaret Johnson in the Tony-winning musical The Light in the Piazza at Royal Festival Hall. The new album, Lieder, features songs by Brahms, Schumann, and Mahler, each of whom bring Romantic poetry to life through exquisite word-setting and sublime melody  . She appeared this spring opposite actor Ben Whishaw in the opening performances of The Shed, a new arts space in New York City, in Norma Jeane Baker of Troy. The spoken and sung dramatic work explores the lives of two iconic beauties, Helen of Troy and Marilyn Monroe, performed live to a musical score and sound effects comprised entirely of digital samples of Ms. Fleming’s voice.

Christmas in New York. Artist: Renée Fleming. Released: November 3, 2014. Recorded: December 2013–August 2014. Genre: Christmas, jazz. The album was released by Decca Records on November 3, 2014 Reception. Winter Wonderland" (with Wynton Marsalis). Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" (with Gregory Porter).

The new production features ‘the most intensely romantic score of any musical since West Side Story’ (The New York Times) performed by Opera North’s 40-piece symphony orchestra. The great American soprano Renée Fleming shows with this ambitious album that she is far from renouncing musical frolics. True, there’s quintessential Fleming repertoire on it - a gorgeous performance of Samuel Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915 - but Fleming also presents a new orchestral song cycle written especially for her: The Strand Settings, by the Swedish composer Anders Hillborg. Then there are three songs by Björk. No tame excursions into crossover, these, but superbly reimagined arrangements.
