Conductor Rudolf Barshai arranged 15 of Prokofiev's set of 20 very brief piano pieces, Visions fugitives, for string orchestra in 1962, and composer Roman Balashov arranged the remaining five for this recording, finally bringing completion to the set. The pieces work extremely well in arrangement and lose none of their charm and piquancy in the transfer from piano to strings.

Australian WRC pressing for The Record Society. The LP is housed in the right side of the gatefold, with the sleeve opening inside at the centre. The back of the gatefold flap is blank. Mono and stereo versions have same cover - the mono version has "6160" on pink/grey labels, while the stereo has "S-6160" on green/grey labels. The stereo was issued with a large "S" sticker on the front of the sleeve. The stereo version has a printed "stereo" rosette on the back, and the mono has a red sticker with "mono" placed over this (though these tend to drop off with age).
