Those who play 1990's Third Eye next to Kross' early recordings will hear just how radically the band changed over the years. Whether rocking aggressively on "Shonen Knife," going for a very melodic "jangly guitar" approach on "Annie's Gone" and "I Don't Know How to Be Your Friend" or sounding positively Beatlesque on "Bubblegum Factory," Kross shows just how far it has come since the irreverent, freewheeling aggression of "Linda Blair.

Their 1990 album Third Eye shows how much they changed their sound over the years. Their aggressive approaches have been changed to fascinating power-pop and alternative rock songs. The colourful choruses on this genre-defining record gives the album more depth than you'd think on first listen. Positively Beatlesque they sound on "Bubblegum Factory, while "Shonen Knife" is a tribute to the contemporary Japanese rockers. Rooted in 1978 as the punk band The Tourists Redd Kross went on to become a well-known name in the punk and power pop music scene

Redd Kross’s 1990 LP Third Eye is at once the band’s most explicit celebration of '70s kitsch culture and its most calculated bid for mainstream success. Where its previous album-1987’s Neurotica-had been a wild and woolly ride, Third Eye is polished and genial. It might lead listeners to believe that the clean and likeable pop album is an effort at replicating the success of '70s bubblegum champions like The Bay City Rollers and The Cowsills (whose youngest member, Susan Cowsill, sings backup on Bubblegum Factory and Love Is Not Love )
