Album · 2014 · 14 Songs. The songs themselves tell stories of the Canadian prairie of Barber’s youth, and that sense of childlike wonder and adult obligation course through the 14 songs that show clear influences from John Prine, Dwight Yoakam, and Ian Tyson. Taken alone, none of that would matter much-except that Barber has a voice to make believers out of skeptics and folkies who’ve yet to be sold on the beauty of a pedal steel guitar. This album is coproduced by pedal steel guitarist Bill Western. Naturally, kids dream of leaving for bigger stages ( Farewell, God Bless You, Goodbye ), while those who stay behind.
Prairieography, Del Barber's fourth album - is a departure for the acclaimed singer - songwriter, venturing farther into traditional country music than his previous releases. His capacity to weave experiences and characters stem from a keen understanding of narrative, phrasing and metaphor, tied together by his polished finger-style guitar work, warm hometown melodies and his intoxicating personality.

Prairieography Del Barber s fourth album is a departure for the acclaimed singer songwriter, venturing farther into traditional country music than his previous releases. Recorded in his hometown of Winnipeg with co producer William J. Western, Prairieography was born out of a love for the Canadian prairies, its people and their stories. Del Barber's, Prairieography (True North Records, 2014) does sound like a cross between Fred Eaglesmith and Dave Carter: it’s the work of a Canadian country philosopher rocking hillbilly poet. First listening doesn’t do it; there are lyrics provided, on the pull-out booklet, but they’re in tiny yellow print on a dark-red background (I take that s a hint: don’t read - or type!) while you’re listening to the music, OK?)
Winnipeg’s Del Barber was nominated for a Roots & Traditional JUNO in 2011 and has just released his fourth album, Prairieography. With it, he moves more into country music territory and dedicates 14 songs to his love for the three provinces of plains and shrubbery. Del has beefed up the instrumentation and presents a variety of moods: intense and relaxed, heavy and light. Lyrically, he reflects on prairie life and tells interesting stories. If there was any question previously as to Barber’s talent, this solid country album should clear things up. Uploaded Turbobit.
