Albert Ferber (29 March 1911 – 11 January 1987) was a Swiss pianist who had an international performing career that spanned four decades and took him across the world. Albert Ferber was a classical pianist and teacher. He was born in Lucerne, and studied in Switzerland, Germany and France where his teachers included Karl Leimer, Walter Gieseking and Marguerite Long.

The majority of Busoni's works are for the piano. Busoni's music is typically contrapuntally complex, with several melodic lines unwinding at once. Although his music is never entirely atonal in the Schoenbergian sense, his later works are often in indeterminate key. In the program notes for the premiere of his Sonatina seconda of 1912, Busoni calls the work senza tonalità (without tonality).

At first glance, there seems to be a disparity between Ludwig van Beethoven’s thirty-two piano sonatas and only one pure piano sonata by Franz Liszt. But just as Hans von Bulow called the Beethoven sonatas the New Testament of Pianists, the B-minor piano sonata is one of the most important of Franz Liszt’s compositions in terms of its form, technical demands and content.
