Maja Solveig Kjelstrup Ratkje, composer and performer (born December 29th 1973 in Trondheim, Norway), finished composition studies at the Norwegian State Academy of Music in Oslo in 2000. Her compositions have been performed by Oslo Sinfonietta, The Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Arve Tellefsen, Cikada and Vertavo string quartets, Quatuor Renoir, Ticom, crash Ensemble, Torben Snekkestad, SPUNK, Frode Haltli and POING among others.

For this super audio release on 2L, a Blu-ray disc plus hybrid SACD combo, the ensemble has chosen the String Quartet No. 13 in A minor, "Rosamunde," of Franz Schubert; Maja Ratkje's first string quartet, Tale of Lead and Light; the String Quartet No. 2 in C major of Benjamin Britten; and only on the Blu-ray Disc, the String. Quartet in C major, "Emperor," of Franz Joseph Haydn.

Maja S. K. Ratkje (voice and live electronics) with the trio SAKA: Kristoffer Berre Alberts (saxophones), Jon Rune Strøm (double bass), Dag Erik Knedal Andersen (drums). Mixed by Lasse Marhaug. Ikue Mori, Simon Balestrazzi, Sylvie Courvoisier, Alessandro Olla, Maja S. Ratkje recorded this album on Sardinia in 2010.

Managed by the artist herself. The opening artist for Method of Defiance was a Norwegian avant garde angel, Maja . Ratkje who created a very powerful and densely layered sonic environment with only her voice and electronics. It definitely created a whole other world that, for me, recalled a quote from Dante’s Inferno I had recently seen in Crowley’s Konx Om Pax.
