Celestial is the debut album by American post-metal band ISIS, released in 2000 by Escape Artist and Hydra Head Records. It is their third solo release and first full length. A year later, Isis released SGNL 05, an EP designed to act as an extension to Celestial; its tracks were all directly culled from the Celestial recording sessions.

Spaced out with some celestial samples, Isis slowly grows their sound from small and catchy riffs into what sounds like strings being slowly ripped from their instruments for rhythms and wires being shredded for leads. This album starts off with a big bang. Well, after the SGNL track. Celestial (The Tower) is a monster of a song. There's some damn big riffs here, particurly the one note riff that dominates the first few minutes. Really headbangable, and with some great drumming.

Produced by Matt Bayles & Isis. Celestial (The Tower) Lyrics. Remit Remit the signal. The flood is coming down I can't hold it back I can't see her I can't even breathe. Even breathe Breathe. The individual Will drifts into space And the signal Fills it's void.

Isis are known today for their expansive and organic sound that is best displayed on records such as Panopticon. This sound is immersive and relaxing; even when it's at its heaviest it still seems as though it is a work of art, not a scathing display of brutality, and there is an emphasis on atmosphere and evolution within songs towards a cumulation. Celestial basically takes this formula and inverts it, so if you think that you understand Isis and haven't heard this, or anything before it, then you're in for a shock.

A year later, Isis released SGNL 05, an EP designed to act as an extension to Celestial ; its tracks were all directly culled from the Celestial recording sessions. Frontman Aaron Turner describes them as being part of the same whole, separated from each other because releasing a double album for the group's first full-length may have been overbearing for listeners.

Celestial is Isis' first full-length after two EPs, The Red Sea and Mosquito Control, and it shows their already fairly mature sludgecore style in full swing. Those earlier EPs proved that they already knew how to rock hard, but Celestial, for the first time, also shows off the band's feel for dynamics and for less-aggressive, quieter ways of getting their point across (including a more effective and advanced use of electronic/noise elements).
