Disc I was called "Bert" and Disc II was "Ernie". Lightbody wished to compile his own Trip album after listening to the album compiled by Tom Middleton. He gave the album . out of 10. However, Drowned in Sound's Michaela Annot was lesser pleased, saying that the compilation "favours the sort of soft-house-electro simplicity favoured by indieists everywhere". She felt that though "it lacks conherency, flow and form", it made the album "even more endearing". She thought that, "overall, it's a little.

Talk about Tom Middleton - The Trip Created By Tom Middleton

Shistus
i'd recommend this album in its entirety for the enjoyment of the creative efforts that Tom Middleton put into this. the tracks aren't especially memorable as amazing...but all of them a little bit funny and pretty groovy. the major kicker to this album for me is that it seems like it gets slept on, likely because of the funny cover tracks all over it, but the one exclusive Ulrich Schnauss track 'If You've Never Been Away,' I would easily spend a lot of money trying to get that track on vinyl. If you love 'Far Away Trains Passing By' then this Schnauss track alone is worth owning the whole album. Very entertaining to say the least. I could easily, at any time, listen to The Trip from beginning to end if I'm in a light mood or I would like to usher myself into a light mood.

Although already four years old, this album really reminds us why Tom Middleton should be regarded as one of the premier "thinkers" in music out there. Anyone can throw some tracks together and make a mix. Some might do it better than others. And a few might actually make it original and unique. But Tom is one of the only people in existence who doesn't just throw stuff around, and doesn't get lucky - his knowledge of music spans generations and cultures, and his own ability to produce music has lent him the ability to create a mix like The Trip. One shouldn't describe this album in terms of the genres or artists represented - because that part doesn't really matter. It's the FEELING you get hearing these tracks fade and cut into each other, the overall journey you have taken, from track 1 to track 46 - that is what's important. If you liked Orbital's Back To Mine mix, then this is a no brainer, and it takes that concept to new heights. Buy, enjoy, and share with others.
