Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays lent their trademark sound to the sweeping (occasionally orchestral) score of this original soundtrack. David Bowie's vocals are featured on "This Is Not America. Psalm 121/Flight of the Falcon. Lyle Mays, Pat Metheny. Pat Metheny Group, Pat Metheny.
Psalm 121, Flight Of The Falcon.
This Is Not America" is a song by English singer David Bowie and American jazz fusion band Pat Metheny Group, taken from the soundtrack to the 1985 film The Falcon and the Snowman. It was released as a single in February 1985, reaching number 14 in the United Kingdom and number 32 in the United States. The instrumental song that "This Is Not America" is based on, was written by Metheny and Mays and is itself a song called "Chris", which was also included on the soundtrack for the film
The Pat Metheny Group released the album Offramp in 1982. Offramp marked the first recorded appearance of bassist Steve Rodby in the group (replacing Mark Egan), and also featured Brazilian "guest artist" Naná Vasconcelos. Vasconcelos had appeared on the Pat Metheny/Lyle Mays album As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls in 1981, and his performance on percussion and wordless vocals marked the first addition of Latin-South American music shadings to the Group's sound. The next three Pat Metheny Group releases would be based around a further intensification of the Brazilian rhythms first heard in the early '80s. Additional South American musicians appear as guests, notably Brazilian percussion player Armando Marçal. Retrieved 2016-05-15.

Falcon & The Snowman - Soundtrack. The Falcon’ is a Metheny/Mays development of the ‘Chris’ theme with additional material & melodies and is of note for Aznar’s singing, which combines the mood of both the ‘Chris’ & ‘Flight of the Falcon’ themes to create a melody that has more pathos than spirituality to it. ‘This is Not America’ is another re-working of the Chris theme, this time by English pop star David Bowie. This record was the only Pat Metheny Group release between 1984 & 1987 and I would say it is a good album for any listener to that band. It is also a pretty good film soundtrack (the inevitable film-soundtrack feature of repetition notwithstanding) that makes for a better album, in my honest opinion, than film; so much so that it perhaps expresses the theme of the film better, without words or actions, than the film itself.
The Falcon and the Snowman (album). The Falcon and the Snowman is the soundtrack to the film of the same name and was composed and produced by Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays. It includes the song "This Is Not America", a major hit sung by David Bowie. The music is performed by the Pat Metheny Group with occasional orchestra and choir. All songs written by Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays except "This Is Not America", lyrics by David Bowie.
