Few would dispute Jerry Goldsmith's consummate mastery of the action movie score, but in recent years it seems he's coasted on past glories, recycling ideas and approaches from previous efforts to diminishing returns. But with The Edge, Goldsmith reclaims the innovative spirit of his finest scores, employing a series of striking glissandi effects that lend the music a bracingly experimental edge. Themes like "Stalking" and "Deadfall" create the kind of palpable suspense and menace that can make or break the onscreen narrative

The album comes to us as a sort of aural emonade, as it was originally intended to be the score to a feature film made by the band’s fellow Torontonian Anthony Scott Burns. Sadly (or not, depending on how you look at it), creative differences conspired against the creative partnership and both band and director parted ways. Electric Youth, however, realised they had something very special on their hands (do they ever). They decided to hang on to their project and bring it to fruition.
