Sodor is a fictional island located in the Irish Sea, just off the English mainland near Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria. It is the setting for The Railway Series books by the Rev. Wilbert Awdry (and his son Christopher), begun in 1945, and for the popular television series Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends since 1984. The need for consistency in the locations for The Railway Series necessitated the creation of a suitable location.
The Island of Sodor is a fictional island of Great Britain where both The Railway Series and the television series take place. It is in the Irish Sea, between England's Lake District and the Isle of Man. About half of the island is agricultural. Oats, barley, and turnips are major crops. Fishing is important too; the Tidmouth kipper is a prized dish at breakfasts far and wide. Lead, zinc and silver are mined, and the island stone has excellent weather-resistant properties. It is used as the setting for The Railway Series books by the Rev. W. Awdry, and later used in the Thomas & Friends television series. Awdry noted that while there was an Isle of Man, there was no similar Island of Sodor.
It just has the 'Isle of Sodor' lettering, if people want to use it at other ports around Sodor. This is Hubert the Hovercraft, who runs a car ferry service between Blackpool on the mainland and Norramby on the Island of Sodor. He's a friendly sort, who was built in Hamburg. As such, he speaks with a German accent. This model includes a custom cabview, opening front (pantograph) and rear (mesh attachment) ramps, and load queues for both passengers and cars. Here's Hugh, the container lorry owned by Sodor Roadfreight. He comes with a custom cabview, full face.

Isle of Sodor is not a person. It is a desolate rock floating light years beyond the Oort cloud, collecting dense matter and planetismals to form into a supergiant. Goshen is star stuff - as Carl Sagan put it, the particles that make up all of us. We are all connected by the Big Bang, each born from the cosmic dust and icy gases that continue to expand. But we’ll get lost if we focus on never-ending expansion, worlds that not even our grandchildren’s grandchildren are likely to experience
