Cruising with Ruben & the Jets is the fourth studio album by the Mothers of Invention. Released on December 2, 1968, on Bizarre and Verve Records with distribution by MGM Records, it was subsequently remixed by Frank Zappa and reissued independently. As with the band's previous three albums, it is a concept album, influenced by 1950s doo wop and rock and roll.
The Jets is the first studio album by the Jets, released in 1985. The Jets gained airplay on MTV, VH1 and BET with the release of their first single "Curiosity". The song reached number 8 on the R&B chart. The second single "Crush on You" would become the Jets' most successful single. It was their first song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. The song reached number 3 on the Pop chart and number 4 on the R&B chart. It stayed in the top 5 for 6 weeks.

In 1968 Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention released an album called "(Cruising with) Ruben & The Jets," about a fictional band from 1955, Ruben & The Jets. I'm surprised Bernie Taupin or Gus Dudgeon didn't mention this anywhere as one of the inspirations. I think this song really in all truth has no distinct meaning.
