I had the privilege of seeing her in concert in an outdoor venue (Oklahoma City, Zoo Amphitheater, in the late 1970's or early 1980's) and I could surely go on listening to her sing and play her guitar forever. At one time, I had every one of her albums, but someone stole more than half of my record collection during a move and I was devastated by the loss. I have long been a fan of Emmylou Harris but, this is the first album that I bought of her, and I am very happy.

Given how long and fruitful her career has been, and the scope of this collection - an overview of her 1970s offerings - Profile should no longer be subtitled Best of Emmylou Harris. That said, this is a weighty compilation of very important material that provides a solid introduction to the beginnings of one of America's most important and consistent recordings artists, a woman who has stretched not only country music - whether Nash Vegas admits it or not - but pop and rock as well. This material was recorded while Harris was still a "country" artist proper.
