Rise is a 1979 album by Herb Alpert. The Rise album was conceived in 1979 after the worldwide success of both the 7" & 12" versions of the single "Rise", a song written by Andy Armer and Randy "Badazz" Alpert which became a million selling hit song on sales charts, radio, and in dance clubs throughout America, Europe, and Japan. Rise was constructed with Side One consisting of original songs composed by Herb, Andy and Randy. Side Two consisted of cover versions of songs Herb had admired.

If the 12" single of Herb Alpert's "Rise" hadn't taken over the charts the way it did back in 1979, one wonders if anyone would have gotten around to checking out the Tijuana Brass, or if Alpert would have gone down in the books as the guy who had a number one with a Burt Bacharach tune ("This. Guy's in Love with You"). Instead, the cut energized the entire dance club generation, with DJs looking for new grooves, and it even ended up being used by Sean "Puffy" Combs on the Notorious .
This album broke Herb Alpert from the "easy listening" category that everyone tried to put him in when he led the Tijuana Brass. This is a great mix of pop/jazz/funk. 1980" opens the album. This song was to be the theme to the 1980 Olympics, but the boycott of the Olympics by the . destroyed any real chance of airplay for this song. But "Rise" had no problems at all. This song was a perfect change from the disco sounds of the day. A perfect groove, and a very pretty melody.

Herb's nephew, Randy Badazz Alpert, wrote this with Andy Armer. Randy told Songfacts: "It was Herb's idea to record The Lonely Bull and several other of his old hit records in a dance format, and though I did not particularly like the idea I did go ahead and work up some new dance arrangements for those old songs. Other tunes from the ‘Rise’ album were also used during that time on ‘General Hospital. I heard Herb interviewed on Larry King’s radio show a few years later and when a caller asked him about that use for ‘Rise,’ he became noticeably uncomfortable and said that while he appreciated the exposure that it had given his new work, he had grown to regret that it had been used for such an ‘evil’ scene.
