Unlike nearly all white rap acts, the Beasties aren’t white boys in blackface. They’re the embodiment of the modern lower-Manhattan street kid. If hip-hop is as much a New York thing as it is a black thing, if keeping it real means faithfully representing your social aesthetic, if it’s another way of saying perfect pitch, then the Beasties keep it as real for their peoples as Jay-Z and Snoop do for theirs. For modern lower Manhattan, Kids is The Godfather and the Beasties are Sinatra

Talk about Beastie Boys - Hello Nasty

Zahisan
What anout the weight of that issue? I got that but got the feeling it's a bit more in weight (maybe not 180 gram). Do you know something? Thanks!
Villo
I got a copy today from King's Road. Thankfully no issues to report, so I'm assuming they did fix the packaging flaws, and actually I think it's one of the best sounding pressings I own. The sound is absolutely brilliant.
Andromakus
Seems that they will release it once more in a few days: https://eu.kingsroadmerch.com/beastie-boys/view/bundle.asp?id=1083&cid=2805Again it's limited to 1,500 copies. Makes not too much sense to re-release it over and over again and claim it's limited...
Phain
How can that be possible? 1,500 copies and not sold out in eight years?!
Kieel
It's not a repress, it never sold out. your pre-ordering slipmats
Ndav
I gotta feeling that the vinyls are a bit heavier as usual. Does anybody knows something? Maye no 180g but somehow heavier. there is nothing written about that below. I think I got the European Version. Thanks!
Fomand
For anyone thinking an original will be free of sibilance - I put on my 1998 Capitol US pressing today and there's a decent amount on it. Enough to be noticeable but not enough to ruin anything in my opinion. It does seem that near the ends of sides are worse.
kolos
Hi, I have an original CD, the remaster on CD, and a 1998 vinyl. Both CDs sound the exact same to me. Compared to the vinyl, the bass is deeper and the sibilance is way lower. I keep the original vinyl because I'm just a big fan, like the artwork/design, and it's not entirely bad. Reading some of the comments about the remastered vinyl, it seems that not much has changed with the sound vs. the original although I'd still like to hear it someday. You can't go too far wrong with this album because it's so good anyway, but if I had to pick a format it would be the CDs or if it has to be vinyl, might as well try a reissue because it'll be cheaper than the original and I doubt it's that much worse. I'll post my thoughts here if I ever hear the remastered vinyl.
Sharpbinder
Do you have this remaster/repress? Is the original better? Thanks.
Ubrise
I dispised the gold pressing. I bought it the day it was released..to find out it had inferior 'colored' vinyl. I'm glad I was able to sell it for triple digits.
GoodLike
The gold press seems to have very shallow grooves. It's a shame, I love this album.
Pedora
The sibilance on mine isn't terrible, but it's definitely there on tracks like 'Just a Test'. Regret buying this, I'll have to pick up an original pressing in the future. "Audiophile Quality" my rump.
Malahelm
The recording itself is sibilant. You won't find a pressing without this issue. Originals have it too.
Nejind
The copy I own sounds very detailed and clear. The artwork on the cover is printed in highest quality, image is sharp (unlike some other official reissues where the artwork looks like a low-res scan from a bootleg cd) on a glossy cardboard which feels very nice to the touch. Very impressive and well-made reissue. Other labels should look up to it when putting out reissues.
Felolv
Its all about these official 1st releases if you want sound quality. Don't be buying re-issues & moaning, if you want mastering & quality, by the OG release!
Rocky Basilisk
The credits are either wrong or incomplete for "Body Movin": the sample of Oye como va is NOT the Tito Puente version, although he wrote the song, the sample is from an instrumental cover by Amral's Trinidad Cavaliers Steel Orchestra - Oye Como Va. From Wikipedia: " Composition[edit]The song samples "Oye Como Va" by Amral's Trinidad Cavaliers[1] and uses vocal samples from "Modern Dynamic Physical Fitness Activities" by Ed Durlacher.[1] https://youtu.be/KXl5d6PR2-E
Sadaron above the Gods
Does anyone know if any of the versions from '98 sound any better? Probably not analog source either I am guessing.
Kigabar
Has been repressed. Is at Beastie Boys official site for $50.
Berenn
not a repress i don't believe. just still for sale
Uthergo
Ordered and returned this 3 times via Amazon. Every single record had an unacceptable warp to the record. Appears to be a really shoddy press run.
Akinozuru
I was really really exicited to see this record remastered and repressed, and such available for my collection. I was a CD collector the first time round, and such was really happy to have a solid copy the second time round.... but alas it wasn't to be. My copy, and everyone subsequently checked, had a God aweful hump in it (in both records), to the point where you know that the needle cannot be having an easy time, and you can hear the tracking effects in the groove....Upon investigation this transpired to be a well documented issue with this album, and ironically the original pressing. It has been suggested that the sleeves were cut slightly too tight for the records (there's two) in the first pressing, and such it has been suggested that this mistake was replocated in the reissue due to a lack of accountability.Bloody doughnuts! So I do not have a copy, and I am very very sad.............
Mr_KiLLaURa
HELP ANYONE? This version was very possibly, and most likely, released 2 weeks after the Capitol issued black vinyl pressing. We received the Capitol label first pressing vinyl along with CDs into inventory July 10 1998, ready for sale, with a July 14 1998 street date. I still have record of this in the point of sales system at the record store I was (and am again) a buyer for. I pre-ordered both versions on vinyl from 3 different distributors. All of them had the Capitol pressing in stock on time for the July 14th street date. The Grand Royal version showed up July 31st, meaning a possible 7-28-98 actual street date. Shouldn't have been a West Coast distribution issue as both Grand Royal & Capitol were in California as were two of the 3 "one-stop" distributors I was working with (Valley Media Dist., Abbey Road). Most likely it was that Capitol was a major label and had the power/money to get it's releases on time. Back then releases from majors were on point 99% of the time with rare street date changes and delays as we see now in the vinyl industry. I have both and bought them each on the week of release, respectively. I bought the Capitol pressing the week it dropped, and then the colored vinyl pressing when it arrived 3 weeks later. The Grand Royal colored version almost surely came out few weeks later. I am wondering if anyone else has information on this at all? It's a question that has perplexed this long time fan for a few years now; which is actually the first pressing. Also it is strange to have it on both labels simultaneously.
Macill
do you remember a lot of this type of information for other releases? It's interesting history, would follow if you posted on a blog or something.
Braendo
I remember getting the colored one the day of release (midnight sale) and taking it back for another because it was too warped to play. Had to take the replacement back as well and settled for a black one, which was fine. Both were available on the release day in VT.
Legend 33
This is starting to make more sense. Both were set for release the same day, and probably in some places were released the same day. And if some of the yellow vinyl copies were damaged they would not have made it to certain markets by street date and then the second batch of yellow vinyl would have shown up a few weeks later. Back then pressing plants could turn around records quickly as I recall. Thanks for the info.
Fenrikree
I still have the receipt for the second of the two yellow copies I bought ( $13.98 -July 21, 1998). I recall purchasing the first copy prior to the 21st possibly on the release date. When I bought the first copy the clerk told me a number of the pressing were damaged stored in the valley as it had been over 100 degrees around that time. This was never corroborated and never heard anyone mention it again. It's possible the yellow was delayed because of this but by no longer than July 21st based on my receipt.
TheMoonix
WhiteMario - Black vinyl is considered the best of all formulations with vinyl. There are impurities in colored vinyl among other issues which cause lots of noise . This is generally the rule for all vinyl records.
Bloodfire
I bought my copy in Canada the day it was released..and there was no black vinyl in stock..just the Yellow. This does not answer yourquestion though. I was upset to find colored vinyl.
Celen
I'm listening to the black vinyl version right now and it sounds AMAZING!
Faegal
Maybe there was a shipment delay to your store because this article from 7/17/98 mentions the limited colored vinyl arriving to retailers. http://www.mtv.com/news/400635/beastie-boys-limited-vinyl-lps-warped-unplayable/
Coiriel
Which version sounds better of the two? Im afraid to get the reissue because of some of the negative reviews.
Zeus Wooden
I was buyer for a record store at the time and we were getting the black and gold vinyls at the same time in some shipments. They were not marked on the jacket with a sticker or in any way so we started opening them to check the color.
Voodoogore
So you were selling them used then? i hope so lol.
Wanenai

Find one... it's pretty cool!
Leniga
The packing is great, no question. The sound quality is a mixed bag, however. Quiet surfaces, always good, but lots of sibilance, hard harsh 'T' and 'S' sounds. Glad I kept my OG yellow vinyl press. I'll keep this one but I'll listen to the OG yellow.
Samuhn
What turntable are you using, as well as the cartridge?
Aver

Usanner
Same problem as the other reviews. You can play the MP3s side by side with the vinyl and it's clear which one sounds better, and it ain't the vinyl. The vinyl sounds like it's digital clipping into the red more than it does regular desirable distortion. The worst part is that it's $30 in the wrapper. What a terrible release.
Geny
I just bought it and I'm shocked by how bad the sibilance distortion is. It's like someone played Hello Nasty through a tape recorder with EQ into the red, and then pressed it to vinyl. Going to see if I can return it.
Ericaz
Packaging Review: Incredible box set for an amazing album. As a packaging geek I was thoroughly impressed! The 4XLPs are housed in a super slick, white outer casing. Inside is the original artwork plus some awesome extras that make the package all the more special. My favorite part is the Hello Nasty "Space Patch" attached to the inside of LP1 sleeve. It mimics the type of patch you would see on an astronauts suit, which goes along with the sort of retro, space design from the original artwork. Overall this is an awesome set that I highly recommend for fans of the B-Boys, Hello Nasty as well as packaging geeks like myself.
Kizshura
matttichenor, my copy has the same problem. Pretty disappointing. It's not on the original (non-remastered) CD.
Perius
another great album of the bb0ys
Connorise
Anybody else hearing a lot of crispy sibilance on this release? Especially in the high parts of the vocals, just a kind of harsh metallic edge to the B Boys' lyrics. Any SSS sound is harsh and edged with distortion. Hard to tell cause I know they deliberately added a lot of distortion to their vocals on this album in particular so it may be that I am just hearing more of that detail but I don't recall it being this harsh on the CD or on MP3s. Wondering if the earlier, original Capitol / Grand Royal LP releases are cleaner as I often find reissues of Capitol records have a lot of pressing errors and sound quite bad actually in my opinion. Seems like track A5 "Just a Test" is probably a good indicator, sounds pretty whack on my copy of this LP... Pretty much unlistenable actually.
Rose Of Winds
Thanks. Same thing here. I thought it was my needle.
