Pictures at an Exhibition is a live album by the English progressive rock band Emerson, Lake & Palmer, released in November 1971 on Island Records. It is a recording of the band's arrangement of Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky, performed at Newcastle City Hall on 26 March 1971. Emerson wished to arrange the piece after seeing an orchestral performance of it several years before. He bought a copy of the score, and pitched the idea to Lake and Palmer, who agreed to adapt it.

I settled on this version - conducted by Abbado - after comparing Abbado and Karajan's versions of the finale to Wagner's Parsifal: Karajan's sound is slick with a solid tempo, but lacks the emotional power and power of Abbado's. The same can be said of Night. This disc is a beautiful collage of stand-alone pieces by Mussorgsky, also including his "Pictures at an Exhibition"

Pictures at an Exhibition is a suite of ten pieces (plus a recurring, varied Promenade) composed for piano by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky in 1874. The suite is Mussorgsky's most famous piano composition and has become a showpiece for virtuoso pianists. It has become further known through various orchestrations and arrangements produced by other musicians and composers, with Maurice Ravel's arrangement being by far the most recorded and performed.
