When a Man Loves a Woman" is a song written by Calvin Lewis and Andrew Wright and first recorded by Percy Sledge in 1966 at Norala Sound Studio in Sheffield, Alabama. Interpret: Percy Sledge. Album titlle: When A Ma. Warm And Tender Soul. Percy Sledge wrote and sang with spine-chilling intensity one of the greatest and most enduring soul ballads of all time, even though his name is nowhere to be found as the composer of When A Man Loves A Woman. Born November 25, 1941 in Leighton, Alabama, Percy was another secular convert. I started in church, like most all of us did, he says. Percy Sledge: My Old Friend The Blues Art-Nr.

Album The Percy Sledge Way. My Special Prayer Lyrics. While the choir sang, Ave Marie I was singing with all my heart And I sent a special prayer, up to heaven That you'll return to me before I fall apart. While the choir sings hallelujah I was singing with all my heart Darling please come back and never leave me again And this will be (this will be) the answer to my prayer.

Percy Sledge – When a Man Loves a Woman. They were his band-mates in a group called the Esquires Combo, whose song Why Did You Leave Me, Baby? had been transformed into When a Man Loves a Woman, largely through Sledge’s contributions. He had moved on to a better-paid job in a chemical factory when he received an unexpected offer from an old acquaintance to sing with the Esquires Combo. In 1989, Sledge won the Rhythm and Blues Foundation’s career achievement award, which helped boost him into a period of steady touring in the 90s.
