Southeastern is the fourth studio album by American singer-songwriter Jason Isbell, released on June 11, 2013 on Southeastern Records. Produced by David Cobb, the album was released to widespread critical acclaim. Initially set to be produced by Isbell's friend and touring companion Ryan Adams, the album was recorded following a stint in rehab, with Isbell noting, "This time I want to remember it al.

Though former Drive-By Truckers member Jason Isbell's previous solo albums displayed promise with songwriting standouts, his new LP Southeastern is his most gripping and most personal album to date. In recent interviews with the New York Times Magazine and the Wall Street Journal, Jason Isbell has been admirably forthcoming about his alcoholism, admitting that he can’t remember much of the time he spent with the Drive-By Truckers, who decided to move on without him after several attempts at rehabilation.

When Isbell left in 2007 to pursue a solo career, there was every reason to believe he would continue in the same vein. Instead, Isbell produced work that still had some Alabama country twang, but was really closer to the folky singer/songwriter side of the spectrum, full of graceful melodies with thoughtful and literate lyrics.

Jason Isbell was 22 when he first hooked up with the Drive-By Truckers, whose two singer-songwriters had a decade and a half in age on the newcomer. By the time Isbell exited the group a few years later, he had caught up with his bandmates, figuratively at least, with songs that were wise beyond his years. On his three previous solo albums, Isbell charted the same terrain he and the other Truckers frequently explored, one where working-class people whose options were quickly running out in life.

Talk about Jason Isbell - Southeastern

My copy tends to skip and repeat sometimes... I heard that this is also the case with the orignal first pressing of the album. Any one else has the same problem with this limited pink version? I'll try to clean it a bit, might as well be some dirt or paper from the sleeve.

I got a copy of the pink and it skips pretty bad on side two as well. Mine looks pretty clean so I'm guessing it's the pressing.
ME
I played it on my other -and more modern- turntable and it plays fine on that one.
Kajishakar
Yes, I had the original pressing and returned it because it skipped so badly. This pink one is a little better, but I still had skipping on track one of side two. It's just the pressing.
Rgia
sounds defective, you should return to merchant.
