You may hear Erich Leinsdorf conducting Symphony No. 6 in D major, Op. 60 by Antonin Dvorak with the Cleveland Orchestra in 1946 Here on archive. In November 1937, Leinsdorf travelled to the United States to take up a position as assistant conductor at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. He and the orchestra followed the news with a performance of the Funeral March from Beethoven's third symphony. In 1969 Leinsdorf left the Boston post. He continued to guest-conduct operas and orchestras around the world for the next two decades, being particularly associated with the Metropolitan Opera and the New York Philharmonic. He also served from 1978 to 1980 as principal conductor of the (West) Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra. He died of cancer in Zürich, Switzerland, at the age of 81.

The Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) is an American orchestra based in Boston, Massachusetts. It is one of the five major American symphony orchestras commonly referred to as the "Big Five". Founded in 1881, the BSO plays most of its concerts at Boston's Symphony Hall and in the summer performs at Tanglewood. Andris Nelsons is the current music director of the BSO. Bernard Haitink currently holds the title of conductor emeritus of the BSO, and Seiji Ozawa has the title of BSO music director laureate.

Orchestra: Boston Symphony Orchestra. Conductor: Erich Leinsdorf. Composer: Ludwig van Beethoven. Audio CD (March 25, 2014). No notes or texts, of course; this is Sony's Bargain Basement. Yet despite my several caveats, I can confidently recommend this set to collectors who might want a memento of the BSO in its glory days (not that they are a shabby ensemble today - far from it!), or who are simply in the market for an inexpensive way to acquaint themselves with this most famous of symphonic canons.
