Omar Sosa (born April 10, 1965) is a Cuban-born composer, bandleader, and jazz pianist. Born in Camagüey, Cuba, Sosa began studying marimba at the age of eight, then switched to piano at the Escuela Nacional de Musica in Havana, where he studied jazz. Sosa moved to Quito, Ecuador, in 1993, then San Francisco, California, in 1995. In San Francisco he became deeply involved in the local Latin jazz scene and began a long collaboration with percussionist John Santos.

Mulatos is a afro-cuban jazz music album recording by OMAR SOSA released in 2004 on CD, LP/Vinyl and/or cassette. Filed under Afro-Cuban Jazz By OMAR SOSA.

Of course, the oud and the tablas aren't exactly prominent instruments in Afro-Cuban jazz or salsa, but they're major assets on Mulatos - an album that paints a consistently attractive picture of Sosa's multicultural outlook. Mulatos is yet another broad-minded project that Sosa can be proud to have in his catalog. 1 Ternura Omar Sosa 7:22. 2 Nuevo Manto Omar Sosa 6:11. 3 La Tra Omar Sosa 5:40. 4 Reposo Omar Sosa 4:17. 5 La Llamada Omar Sosa 7:23. 6 Dos Caminos Omar Sosa 5:31. 7 Iyawo Omar Sosa 6:19

Omar Sosa: Mulatos by Chris May, published on November 24, 2004. Less a conscious, structured world music fusion than some of Sosa's previous projects, and more a free flowing collaboration between musicians from different cultural backgrounds, Mulatos falls into none of the usual world jazz pigeonholes and is very much the product of the particular group of musicians-two Cubans, two North Africans and four Europeans-who recorded it.

Prominently featuring clarinetist Paquito d'Rivera, Mulatos combined elements of Cuban jazz, French chanson, European folk, and North African music, all mashed up in Sosa's distinctive and good-humored style. The follow-up to that album is this collection of remixes, provided by a cross-section of Europe's best producers and DJs. Paris-based newcomer DJ basephunk contributes an elegantly cool and funky mix of "La Tra" that brings the string bass to the fore while adding tweaked and eerie vocal manipulations; Steve Arguelles' "Paralelo (Plush Vocal Mix)".
