Nightshift is the 11th studio album by the Commodores, released by Motown Records on January 15, 1985. It was the group's last album on the Motown label before switching to Polydor. Nightshift is the Commodores' second album without Lionel Richie, who left the band in 1982, and their last album with their original bass guitarist Ronald LaPread. Their previous album Commodores 13 (1983) had featured interim lead vocalist Harold Hudson of Mean Machine.

Marvin, he was a friend of mine And he could sing a song, his heart in every line Marvin sang of the joy and pain He opened up our minds, and I still can hear him say "Aw talk to me, so you can see, what's going on" Say you will sing your songs forevermore

Album: Nightshift (1985). Charted: 3 3. Get the Sheet Music License This Song. David from Honolulu, HiI have a feeling the "nightshift" The Commodores are singing about is in reference to the afterlife. A great song & I wish this group had more than one major hit after Lionel Richie's departure in 1982. The Commodores had one more follow-up single to "Nightshift" ( - Billboard Hot 100). Janet" made the lower reaches of the Billboard Hot 100 chart during the summer of 1985 before The Commodores split up. Trevino from UsaThis song brings back memories as a kid listening to the radio.
