Sofrito: International Soundclash is their second compilation for Strut, following the critically lauded Tropical Discotheque. These 14 tracks are geographically and chronologically diverse yet have one thing in common whether they are from the '70s or the 21st century: they're raw and their grooves are infectious. Of the new cuts, the highlights are an unreleased, alternate version of "Nabed Nade ei Piny Ka" from the Owiny Sigoma Band (the original version appeared on their self-titled Brownswood album in 2011) and Grupo Canalon's "La Zorra y Perol" fronted. Simply put, Sofrito: International Soundclash continues the collective's rep for all-killer, no-filler releases.

In stock now for same day shipping. International Soundclash. Aside from the enthusiasts that gather at Sofrito parties in London and beyond, where many of these tracks are dancefloor staples, few will know much about many of these styles of music, let alone the artists who make them.

But that s the point: through International Soundclash, the Sofrito crew are opening our eyes and ears to brilliant sounds we never knew existed. For that reason alone, this comes highly recommended. Sofrito: International Soundclash. Whereas the first, 2011's Tropical Discotheque, had a distinct theme, Sofrito International Soundclash takes a more wide-ranging approach. The results are predictably enjoyable and deliciously heavy. Opening with the classic Soca of Lord Shorty & Vibrations International, the album moves through world music styles past and present at a furious rate. The whole thing is gloriously upbeat and very, very memorable. Aside from the enthusiasts that gather at Sofrito parties in London and Paris, where many of these tracks are dancefloor staples, few will know much about many of these styles.
