Winterland 1973: The Complete Recordings is a 9 CD live album by the American rock band the Grateful Dead. It contains three complete concerts, missing only the encore of the first concert. It was recorded on November 9, 10, and 11, 1973, at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco, California. The album was released on April 1, 2008. A tenth, "bonus" disc was included with early shipments of the album

The sound quality is poor by modern studio album standards, but if you listen carefully to the Bird Song from that show, what you hear is a perfect experience of communion between band members and audience and an energy that is absolutely sizzling. But back to the 1973 Complete Winterland Recordings. I do not recommend 1973 Winterland Complete Recordings for neophytes. I highly recommend the 12-19-1973: Dick’s Picks 1 show for those newbies wanting to get a taste of the Dead in late 1973 and to hear Jerry's improvisational talents and the Dead's space jazz chops really peaking). But for the historians, this is a great compilation not just for the wonderful artifacts collected in the box, but the great sound quality of the recordings, and the energy of the music.

The Grateful Dead's Winterland 1973 - The Complete Recordings appears a little over two years after its original release was aborted a few months prior to the band's business affiliation with Rhino Records was made official. The release of this nine-disc box (plus full-length bonus disc) institutes a new thrust in the archiving of Grateful Dead recordings

This provides enhanced sound quality when played on CD players with HDCD capability, and is fully compatible with regular CD players. Disc 1.
