Jellybean: "Sidewalk Talk" (1984). Speaking of Jellybean, not long before Madonna's Like a Virgin album dropped, she sang backup on the 1984 hit "Sidewalk Talk" from her former flame. The fun, lighthearted tune features forgotten singer Catherine Buchanan on lead vocals, but the sound of Madonna's joyous voice (think "Holiday") is the song's selling point.

Sidewalk Talk" is a song by American record producer John "Jellybean" Benitez from his first extended play, Wotupski!?! (1984). It was released on October 21, 1984, by EMI Records as the first single from the EP. The song was written by Madonna and produced by Benitez. They had initially met in 1983 and Benitez worked as a producer on Madonna's self-titled debut album.

EMI America, Pathé Marconi EMI. 2009527. Madonna was able to get Sire Records to let John "Jellybean" Benetiz work on her first album & 12" singles, in exchange Jellybean wanted her song "Sidewalk Talk" for his first album (which was later released as "Watupski!?!"), and Madonna reluctantly agreed. The song "Sidewalk Talk" was then mixed to push Madonna's vocals to the background and a new singer named Catherine Buchanan was brought in to sing over Madonna's vocals, thus making Catherine's vocals the lead vocals- although it sounds like a duet
