Edward IV was born in 1442 an was the King of England for 21 years. The first half of his rule was marred by the violence associated with the Wars of the Roses, which was England’s 3rd civil war. But he overcame his rival families challenge to the throne in 1471, to successfully reign in peace until his sudden death at the age of 40. Before becoming king, he was 4th Duke of York, the 7th Earl of March, 5th Earl of Cambridge, and 9th Earl of Ulster. He also praised Edward’s noble and worthy merits, princely and knightly courage, and the blessed and noble disposition and dedication of your said highness to the common weal and government of your said realm. edward iv white queen irons royalty british woodville guys actors in shining armor.
In 1464, King Edward IV married the widowed Elizabeth Woodville. Elizabeth’s father Sir Richard Woodville, was only a knight at the time of her birth. Her mother was Jacquetta of Luxembourg, daughter of Peter I of Luxembourg, Count of Saint-Pol, Conversano and Brienne, and widow of John, 1st Duke of Bedford, the third surviving son of King Henry IV of England and the brother of King Henry V of England. Traditionally, the wedding is said to have taken place at Elizabeth’s family home in Northamptonshire on May 1, 1464
King Edward VIII was born Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David on June 23, 1894, to the Duke and Duchess of York (the future King George V and Queen Mary). His brother Albert was born a year and a half later, soon followed by a sister, Mary, in April 1897. Three more brothers followed: Harry in 1900, George in 1902, and John in 1905 (died at age 14 from epilepsy). This symbolized to many a king who was to deal with the trivial and who rejected his father's work. Still, the government and the people of Great Britain had high hopes for King Edward. He had seen war, traveled the world, been to every part of the British empire, seemed sincerely interested in social problems, and had a good memory.
