The risk-taking accordion player and instrumentalist is far from that - her approach is quite expansive, and on Out the Gap she demonstrates that Irish/Celtic music can be fused with everything from calypso to French-Canadian Quebecois music to Scandinavian folk. In fact, many of the songs that Shannon interprets on this CD didn't come out of Ireland or Scotland. While "Butterflies" is a traditional Finnish folk song and "Reel Beatrice" is a French-Canadian Quebecois tune, "Sandy River Belle" is a number that experts on American folk will recognize

Her 1991 album Sharon Shannon is the best-selling album of traditional Irish music ever released in Ireland. I’m always disappointed when artists don’t provide the names of the tunes they build their medleys wit. or instance what’s the first one in Bungee Jumpers. I know I’ve heard this somewhere. Track 8 : Out The Gap. Thanks to Osvaldo Laviosa, I now know that the reel that follows the mazurka and the jig is called "Sarah MacManus". Osvaldo adds: "I’ve found the same 3rd tune of this medley in "Signs" by Kathryn Tickell (1993)" Battlefield Band plays it. The first part seems to be quite the same as the first part of The Maid Behind The Bar. Posted by . ellerin 11 years ago. Great album !!
