Cal Collins (May 5, 1933 – August 27, 2001) was an American jazz guitarist. Born in Medora, Indiana, Collins first played the mandolin professionally as a bluegrass musician in the early 1950s. After service in the Army, he moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, and switched to jazz guitar after hearing swing guitarists Charlie Christian, Irving Ashby, and Oscar Moore. He played in Cincinnati for twenty years.

Cal Collins (b. 5/5/33, d. 8/27/01) was renowned as a sophisticated guitarist on the Cincinnati jazz scene, but was no high brow and dabbled in many music styles. He came about this eclectic bearing by growing up on a farm in Inidiana during the 1930's (Lonnie Mack was a childhood friend), where his first instrument to be played professionally was the mandolin.

Guitarist Cal Collins made such a strong impression with his Concord recordings that it is surprising to realize he was only with the label from 1978-81; during that era he seemed to be everywhere. This trio set with bassist Monty Budwig and drummer Jeff Hamilton is a strong example of his talents. A talented straight-ahead bop player with roots in the swing era, Collins is heard in top form throughout the excellent program

Between March and May of 1980 the band recorded their self titled debut and only album with the collaboration of Maruja Cortes in "Mujer del Sur".
