David Koresh (/kəˈrɛʃ/; born Vernon Wayne Howell; August 17, 1959 – April 19, 1993) was the American leader of the Branch Davidians sect, claiming to be its final prophet. Koresh came from a dysfunctional family background and was a member, and later a leader, of the Shepherd's Rod, a reform movement led by Victor Houteff that splintered off from the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Branch Davidian: Branch Davidian, member of a religious group that had a 51-day standoff with federal agents in 1993 that ended when the group’s compound was destroyed in a fire. The Branch Davidians are only one of the surviving Davidian groups. Others include the Davidian Seventh-day Adventist Association headquartered in Exeter, Missouri, and the General Association of Davidian Seventh-day Adventists in Salem, South Carolina. Both groups were reorganized in the early 1960s to continue what they saw as the original teachings of the Davidian SDAs; neither had any connection to Koresh or the Branch Davidians.

The term Davidian was used in reference to their belief they were part of the restoration of the Davidic kingdom of Israel. After Houteff’s death in 1955, another group broke away and formed the Branch Davidians, a name alluding to the anointed Branch mentioned in Zechariah 3:8; 6:12. The Branch Davidians were told that that if Koresh had sex with a woman, she was in the House of David. Koresh admitted to fathering 12 children by several wives, though other sources said he might have fathered 15 or more.

The flags of the Branch Davidian are confusing because each of their flags were basically hand-made and one of a kind. Each was different and we are left with a collection of unclear photos and conflicting verbal and written descriptions. The Mt. Carmel Branch flag is said to have featured a stylized six-winged fiery serpent flying over a white horizon of the earth with the "Seven Seals" of Biblical prophecy lined up on that horizon in a position to trigger the Apocalypse
