Sebadoh (/ˈsɛbədoʊ/) is an American indie rock band formed in 1988 in Northampton, Massachusetts, United States, by Eric Gaffney and Dinosaur Jr. bass player Lou Barlow. Along with such bands as Pavement and Guided by Voices, Sebadoh helped pioneer lo-fi music, a style of indie rock characterized by low-fidelity recording techniques, often on four-track machines.
Drunkenly weaving between post-Hüsker Dü hardcore and Sub Pop-styled sludge rock, its lyrics catalog all the key players of the pre-Nirvana period - Lou Barlow wails about "gettin' loose with the Pussy Galore, crackin' jokes like a Thurston Moore, pedal-hoppin' like a Dinosaur" before finally arriving at the dismissive and contemptuous assertion that it's all merely "a new.

The new generation of electric white boy blues. / ABOUT //. A celebration of all things shaped like indie rock, and all things American (and sometimes Canadian). We like power chords, we like fuzz and distortion, we like huge choruses, we like bands that tour out of vans and sleep on floors, we like grit, determination and the spirt of independence

III was the first full length Sebadoh album to feature Jason Loewenstein, who joined the band's two founding members Lou Barlow and Eric Gaffney in 1989, and debuted on the "Gimme Indie Rock" single earlier that year Contents. Along with Pavement's 1992 debut Slanted and Enchanted, III is considered one of the "cornerstones of 90s indie rock," and helped establish the lo-fi subgenre. The album has been included in various best-of lists in the years since its release, including Alternative Press' "Top 99 of '85–'99" in 1995 ( and Spin's "Top 90 Albums of.
Gimme Indie Rock" (1991) (Rockin' the Forest). Sebadoh's classic albums earned them a place at the forefront of 1990s independent rock, so it's fitting that they put out - literally - the defining track of the genre. On their first album in more than ten years, Jack White's acclaimed foursome the Raconteurs are back with a solid collection of songs.

Along with such bands as Pavement and Guided by Voices, Sebadoh helped pioneer lo-fi music, a style of indie rock characterized by low-fidelity recording techniques, often on four-track machines. The band's early output, such as The Freed Man and Weed Forestin' (both released 1990), as well as Sebadoh III (1991), was typical of this style. After a 14-year recording hiatus, during which time members pursued other projects while occasionally touring as Sebadoh, the group returned in 2013 with the Secret EP and a full-length album titled Defend Yourself, which were both self-recorded. The new full-length album, Defend Yourself, came out on Joyful Noise Recordings on Sept. It debuted at No. 1 on the "New Alternative Artists" Billboard chart, somewhat ironically, since the band had been together for roughly 27 years at that point in time.
