Talk about Art Science Technology - AST

To Tim below..Man are you honestly for real, A.S.T. is a wicked track, i remember dossing around listening to this on my Sony Walkman etc along with loads of other superb tunes from that time, The Gonzo, Secret Desire White Light, 100hz etc etc, all on mix tapes that i suspect was from some geezer in London who used to sell them from a record shop he used to work in, i seem to remember he used to have a stall somewhere and used to sell them off that too, i stumbled across the info one day and it fitted with where i was getting these tapes from as a geezer i knew who we used to get Trips off was a regular visitor to London and always came back with these tapes, they were all good sets aswell, no noddy mixes, could be a well known Dj i suppose but not all the people who can and could mix better than alot of the people we know today got the breaks, i digress, there was never any Mc's on them either...If it rings a bell with anyone please leave a reply, he was a well known Dj in London, that's my waffle over :)
This is what I had to say about it in 2001: The title track is a catchy dance track that could pass for early Chemical Brothers with its rock fills, guitar samples and fuzzy synth bass. "Esus Flow" is essentially a remix of Stakker Humanoid. The Vast Galaxy Remix is particularly good, portending greater things to come.
A perfect example of crappy electronic music and especially new beat style coming into techno. Typical of the day UK indie beat break ala Stone Roses / Happy Mondays with a yawning organ and rave feel. I didnt get into strictly techno or rave till 1991 but usually I can identify tracks for what they stood for and what was going around at the time so I can appreciate it even though I wasn't a regular clubber but more of a music aficionado. Well it's still a drab track and I can only hope a new beat revival would never happen if it sounded anything like this.
"I wasn't a regular clubber but more of a music aficionado" maybe you just had to be there..............................
Your review of this classic track explains you have no taste. I expect you went to raves wearing white gloves and carrying a pot of vicks - New Beat was a class sound out of Belgium and the music is 1991 was nowhere near as diverse as the music in 1989/1990 when the illegal raves went on for 24 hours+ something that rarely happened in 1991 because the rave scene was full of idiots who thought being hardcore meant swallowing loads of pills and looking stupid
Whatever anyone thinks of this track, good, bad or indifferent. It's definitely not new beat haha! Just thought I'd repeat that little fact out :)
What are you on about mate ?? its a free world and thats your opinon but you dont know what you are on about!! for one this is not new beat and 2 if you were around at the time you would know this was massiveeeeeee and not "A perfect example of crappy electronic music" !
Massive FSOL record, sampling The Stranglers... it's one of those very special records by Cobain and Dougans. I first heard it on Warehouse Rave 4 and for me it was the highlight of the comp. The drum break is nice and heavy when it first kicks in, on a big system it sounds really boombastic. If you like FSOL and haven't got this track I recommend tracking it down...
