Given Luther Vandross's precarious state of health at the time of its release, Dance With My Father’s title track-a tale of yearning for a lost loved one-takes on added poignancy. It’s something of a centerpiece on an album that moves in several directions, reaching for varied constituencies, while ultimately staying focused on Vandross’s trademark buttery vocals. This is only the second Luther Vandross album I have purchased, so I am not sure where it ranks among his entire discography. I will say though, Luther has a gorgeous voice, a true gift that sadly was silenced way too soon.

Dance with My Father" is the title track to singer and songwriter Luther Vandross' thirteenth studio album. With Richard Marx, Vandross wrote the song based on his personal experience. Its heart touching lyrics recall childhood memories with Vandross' father, who used to dance with him and his mother. Despite the lack of promotion due in part to Vandross' hospitalization, "Dance with My Father" became one of the most requested songs at the time.
