Anchored by the razor-sharp, Brit-rock-inspired My Happiness, the album strikes a balance between crazy-hummable hooks and lyrics soaked in personal strife and political disenchantment. The group’s anger boils over with Like a Dog, a snarling indictment of their government’s mistreatment of aboriginal Australians. Odyssey Number Five Powderfinger. After dropping three solid efforts in the ’90s, each one better than the last, Powderfinger totally nailed it with 2000’s Odyssey Number Five. Anchored by the razor-sharp, Brit-rock-inspired My Happiness, the album strikes a balance between crazy-hummable hooks and lyrics soaked in personal strife and political disenchantment.

Powderfinger may have climbed up into Australian's popular approval prior to Odyssey Number Five with the ease of a nearby dumbwaiter, but North America began to look like more of a challenging proposition. Surely being included on the Mission Impossible 2 soundtrack, roping in Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots knob-twiddler Nick DiDia, and touring with Coldplay made all the sense in the world from a publicist point of view.
