Featuring exquisite and rarely performed 17th century French songs for mezzo-soprano and lute. The first half of the seventeenth century marked the heyday of the air de cour at the French court. This was a monophonic lute-accompanied song that was generally on the subject of love. Sentimental songs of this kind soon found their way to other parts of Europe, including England, Germany and the Netherlands. With their exceptional programme, mezzo-soprano Marie-Claude Chappuis and lutenist Luca Pianca breathe new life into this courtly musical culture in all of its elegance and beauty, performing.
F-Pieces de Luth Livre 2 Charles Mouton. The aim of this study is to establish in terms of the total repertoire of seventeenth century French harpsichord music, and also of its context in French music as a whole, what constituted its relationship to the lute both in general and in details of technique. For this three converging points of departure have been followed.
It has many similarities to the Toccatas for harpsichord, and dates from before 1712. The serious demeanour of the suite, originally written in the 1720’s in French style, was outdated by the 1740’s. A more galant flavour was fashionable in lute music, with simpler melodic and rhythmic ideas, and a disposition to recreation.

Nigel North (born 5 June 1954) is an English lutenist, musicologist, and pedagogue. He studied guitar on a scholarship to the junior department of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (1964–70), taking up the lute in 1969, at the age of 15. He maintains he was more or less self-taught on the instrument.
Nigel North was initially inspired into music by the early 60's instrumental pop group ‘The Shadows', and went on to study classical music through the violin and guitar, eventually discovering his real path in life, the lute, when he was 15. Basically self-taught on the lute, he has for some 20 years developed a unique musical life which embraces several and varied activities as a teacher, accompanist, soloist and writer. He published a continuo tutor (Faber 1987) representing his work and passion for this subject. Nigel North also enjoys accompanying singers and is an enthusiastic teacher. For over 20 years he was Professor of Lute at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, in London; from 1993-1999 he was Professor at the Hochschule der Künste, Berlin and since January 1999 Nigel North has been Professor of Lute at the Early Music Institute of Indiana University, Bloomington in the USA.
