In Zen, ensō (円相, "circle") is a circle that is hand-drawn in one or two uninhibited brushstrokes to express a moment when the mind is free to let the body create. The ensō symbolizes absolute enlightenment, strength, elegance, the universe, and mu (the void). It is characterised by a minimalism born of Japanese aesthetics. Sylvan Esso are back with their sophomore album, "What Now," due out in April. Along with a few appearances at SXSW, Sylvan Esso have also announced a tour promoting the album, with supporting acts including Field Report, Aero Flynn, Flock of Dimes and indie rocker Lucy Dacus, as well as their own one-day hometown festival at Shakori Hills in Pittsboro, . 30, where they’ll be joined by Tune-Yards, Wye Oak, Helado Negro, Well$ and more. Again, What Now will be released on April 28.
Sylvan Esso is the debut studio album by American electropop group Sylvan Esso, released May 12, 2014 via Partisan Records. The band consists of singer Amelia Meath (of Mountain Man) and producer Nick Sanborn (of Megafaun). The album reached number 39 on the Billboard 200 and number 7 on the Independent Albums chart, and as of November 2014 has sold 39,000 copies.
When the album appeared, Sylvan Esso started out touring clubs in a Prius, with Mr. Sanborn running lights as well as music from his computer. A year later, they were performing at big festivals and headlining theaters. Sylvan Esso grew out of a chance meeting on the indie-rock circuit in 2010.
